Iceland is the country in Europe which is located in the North Atlantic Ocean just south of the arctic circle. It is the world’s 18th largest islands. It is Europe’s second largest island following Great Britain. About 11% of the island has glaciers. The climate of Iceland is basically temperate. The warm north Atlantic current ensures the high temperatures than the most of the parts lying on the same altitude. Generally, winters are mild and windy whereas summers are cold and damp. There is slight variation in climates in various parts of Iceland. Snowfall in winters is most common in north than south. Iceland’s dual climatic location makes it more prone to various geological activities. There are more volcano eruptions in this island.Mainly population of this island consists of people of Nordic and Celtic origin. The language spoken by the most of the people is Icelandic, which is basically North Germanic language. Howe ver, prominent foreign languages are English, Danish and German.

However, the political powers of the president have always created disputes. There have been contracting debates regarding this issue. Several provinces of the constitution appear to give the president important powers but other provisions suggest differently. It is the most productive country in the world. The economy is basically dependent upon fishing industry which forms the major part of export. Although the Icelandic economy still relies heavily on fishing it is constantly becoming less important as the travel industry and other service, technology, energy intensive and various other industries grow rapidly. Iceland’s economy has been diversifying into manufacturing and service industry in last few decades.

Over 99% of the country electricity has been produced from hydro power and electro thermal. There is freedom of religion in iceland. Most Icelanders are either very liberal in their religious beliefs or uninterested in religious matters altogether, and predominantly do not attend church regularly or even at all. The important key to understanding the culture of icelanders is the high importance they place on the traits of their indepedence and self reliance. Icelnaders are very proud of their Viking culture.

Technology is very developed in Iceland. It is the most advanced country in regards to technology in the world. Tourists are attracted towards the geothermal spas and pools that are easily found all over the country. Icelandic society is based on equality for both the genders. There is participation of women in all the fields. Even in politics, there are women leaders. Women are allowed to retain their names after marriage. Generally, no sirnames are used in the icelander’s society.
