Greenland is a self governed Danish territory. It was basically protected and isolated society until 1940. Danish government which used to govern the colonies of Greenland had been convicted that the society would face exploitation from the outside world. However, during World War II, Greenland become self reliant accompanied by self government and independent communication with the outside world.Greenland is the largest island in the world. It is principally surrounded by cold ocean currents. That is the basic reason of its more cold coasts.The greater part of Greenland has diverse mountain vegetation. In the driest inland areas, the vegetation is similar to that is found in the mountainous regions of central North America.Culture of Greenland is related to the Inuit tradition because majority of people are the descendents of this culture. The nation's culture reflects that hunting is iconic to their culture and most Greenlanders still hunt at least part-time to supplement their diet and provide skins for clothing. However the traditional culture has undergone a change due to the impact of more developed economy. There has been improved in the standard of people.

greenlandGreenland has an elected parliament of thirty-one members. The leader of the majority party is elected as the prime minister of the parliament. The current Prime Minister is Hans Enoksen. About 81% of the surface of the Greenland is covered with the snow. It is called Greenlandic ice cap. Tourism industry is the only source of earning foreign exchange. Even tourism industry faces the problems due to the short season and in hostile climatic conditions. Various events like dog racing, ice fishing, hiking and cross country racing are held to mark the celebrations. The public sector of Greenland basically consists of publicly owned enterprises and the municipalities. They play a dominant role in Greenland’s economy. About half of the government revenue comes from grants that are given by the Danish government.

Greenland has a population of 56,361. It has various natural resources like coal, iron ore, lead, zinc, gold, platinum and uranium. The economy of Greenland is basically dependent upon exports of fish and major portion of the support comes from the Danish government. Greenland has a home rule government under Danish rule. People of Greenland now have ordinary civic right and their general state of health and educational facilities have improved.There are great sources of entertainment like summer fetes that are held at local harbours. A large number of music concerts like jazz, rock, pop and other traditional church Concerts are also held. The numerous beautiful old churches of Bornholm are very interesting.

Games and sports are very important part of people. However, football is the national game. It is played with great enthusiasm by people. There are various institutions that play very important role in promoting the sportsmanship among local people.The transportation system in Greenland is very unusual because it has no railways, no roads and no inland waterways. The major means of transport has been the boats in the summer and dogsled in the winters.
