Greece lies at the juncture of Asia, Africa and Europe. It is the cradle of western civilization. It is considered as the birthplace of democracy and western philophosy. It has particularly long and evenful history . It has rich cultural heritage that has evidently effected its literature. Its literature has been written from the oldest surviving written works in the Greek language. The beginning of Greek literature had particularily effected the various works of art.There have been hundred tragedies that have been written during the classic age. But only a few have survived like Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Greece has various mountain ranges and plains with sea in the southern end of the Balkans. Greece’s climate can be categorised into three types. It influences the various regions of its territory.
The Pindus mountain range strongly affects the climate of the country, by making the western side of it (wind prone areas) wetter than the areas lying to the east of it. The three distinct types are the Mediterranean, the Alpine and the Temperate types. The first one features mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. The Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Crete, Eastern Peloponessus and parts of the Sterea Ellada region are mostly affected by this particular type.Four fifth of Greece consists of mountains or hills making the country one of the most mountainous in Europe. Westen Greece consists of a number of lakes and wetlands and it is dominated by the Pindus mountain range.Services, including tourism make up the largest and fastest-growing sector of the Greek economy.Tourism contributes a lot toward the development of Greek econmoy. Greece has a capitalist mixed economy.
The nation’s main economic activity is primarily based on the tourism, shipping, banking and finance and construction sectors. It has an average per capita income that has been estimated at $23,518 for the year 2006. The implementation of a number of structural and fiscal reforms, combined with considerable European Union funding over the last 25 years has increased private sector development. Because of its strategic location, qualified workforce and political and economic stability, many multinational companies, such as Ericsson, Siemens and Motorola have their regional R & D headquarters in Greece. Greece has an ancient seafaring tradition and has built shipping based on its geographic location and the entrepreneurial ability of its ship owners. The culture and art of Greece are very resourceful. Traditional dance and drama continue to be the part of the Greek society. There are various types of dances that have been associated to the specific regions. Each region formed their own moves, motions, and footwork to fit they way of their people. For example, island dances have more of a "watery" flow to them, while Pontic dancing closer to Black sea is very sharp.Greek dances are performed often in Greek communities. A Greek wedding will usually feature a great deal of dancing. They are also performed among international folk dance groups.The culture of Greece has attained huge recognition from the people of other countries as well as locals.
