Denmark has emerged as a modern, prosperous nation that is participating in the general political and economic integration of Europe. Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark. It has natural resources like petroleum, natural gas, fish, salt, limestone, chalk, stone, gravel and sand. Denmark compromises of features of modern economy like high-tech agriculture, up-to-date small scale industry, extensive government welfare measures, comfortable living standards, stable currency and high dependence on foreign trade.It is exporter of food and energy and enjoys a comfortable balance of payments surplus.Government policies play a very important role in privatization of state assets. Because of high GDP per capita, welfare benefits, a low Gini index, and political stability, the Danish people enjoy living standards topped by no other nation. Major industries include iron, steel, nonferrous metals, chemicals, food processing, machinery and transportation equipment, textiles and clothing, electronics, construction, furniture and other wood products, shipbuilding and refurbishment, windmills, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment Culture of Denmark is hard to define.
There are some general features that are often associated with Danish society and culture. Danes people are very reserved in their nature. They have rather positive outlook toward the life. They are basically fun loving people but very hard working at the same time. They have liking for the “civilized nature”. Equality is an important part of Danish culture. Denmark has rich cultural and intellectual heritage. Danish movies have attracted international attention. Country has always had a strong tradition of movie making and has produced one of the world’s greatest film directors. Arts of various types like handicrafts and pottery have been developed with the passage of time. The concept of Danish Design is based on the post war era’s international taste where traditions still plays a great role. The standard of craftsmanship has gained international recognition.
Ceramics entered a period of strength with a number of individual workshops concentrating on the material, the glazing and a subdued, secondary decoration to simple everyday objects, which nevertheless were not primarily intended to be used. The new jewellery workshops on the other hand are experimenting with shapes and materials, while the new glassworks that appeared in the 1970s concentrated mainly on what is safe and saleable, although studio glass is establishing itself with a broad spectrum of manifestations and effects. Among many furniture experiments it is traditional pieces that are being produced, although the increased use of colour in the 1980s also left its traces in Denmark. The industry makes increasing use of industrial designers, and functional, visually satisfying solutions have been created making use of lighter technology. Only the textile industry is characterized by specialist art craftsmen.Sports are very popular in Denmark and its citizens participate in wide variety of sports. National sport is football. There are various academies in Denmark which play a very important role in developing the sportsmanship among the people of the country.Popular sports include handball, badminton, cycling, ice hockey, tennis, gymnastics and recently also golf. Denmark provides enough ground for its citizens to develop physically and mentally.
